During his Ph.D. studies at Cornell, Jon developed a theoretical model of argumentation prevalent in online user comments, as well as software tools to extract such arguments. He has also taught courses as a lecturer–he especially enjoys teaching artificial intelligence courses, such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Information Retrieval.
Jon’s current research focuses on mining arguments from user generated content, such as comments, reviews, tweets and student essays. He is also working on various applications including machine-assisted commenting interface, summarization and essay grading.
